Cadbury Claps Back at Homophobic Reaction To Its New Ad
If the world wasn’t enough of a mess right now, Cadbury’s latest ad has triggered a surge in homophobic rage online.
The Golden Goobilee ad (which we think is bloody brilliant) ends with a real-life gay couple sharing an intimate moment whilst noshing on their favourite chocolate.
Now, we won’t waste our time by giving people with homophobic views a platform, because love is love and that’s really all there is to it!
Instead, we want to praise Cadbury for its LGBTQ representation, for standing its ground and clapping back at those with antiquated views.
In a reply to one enraged Twitter user, Cadbury said:
[We] just wanted to clear something up. We’ve always been a progressive brand that spreads a message of inclusion, whether it is through products or campaigns. The almost kiss of a couple sharing a Creme Egg was included in the ad in the same light any other couple…
Fans of the popular fondant also came to the confectionary giant’s defence:
Simon Blake OBE, a trustee of the charity Stonewall also added his thoughts on the backlash sparked by the new Cadbury ad:
I am not a huge fan of Cadbury’s Creme Egg but I am a fan of any and all adverts that make LGBT+ visible. And please don’t worry about children they won’t be confused because to them love is love.
Cadbury’s latest ad marks 50 years of its Creme Egg and is a nod to all the different ways the Great British Public like to eat theirs; from licking out the centre, to scooping out the goo – how do you eat yours? We’d love to know!
