Cat Day 2020: The Purr-fect Day
It’s finally here, the day we’ve all been waiting for, 29th October is officially recognised as Cat Day. A whole 24 hours dedicated to our furry feline friends.
The age-old cat vs dog divide is ever present, but the stats still show we’re a nation of cat lovers. According to a study done in the UK, we Brits spend a whopping £9.6 billion (with a B) on our cute little companions each year and have an estimated 4 million domestic cats living in our homes.
The fussy little fluff balls have been by our sides since before the ancient Egyptians built the Pyramids and – as long as we keep feeding them – there’s no sign of them going anywhere anytime soon.
About Cat Day
Crazy about cats, Cat Day was created by a true cat lover and animal welfare advocate, Colleen Paige, to help raise awareness for some of the issues surrounding their co-inhabitants with us.
But it also has a lighter (fluffier) side to it too – to simply spread the love between people and our four-pawed partners in crime. After all, cats have been a source of enjoyment for us humans for decades. Since the dawn of the internet they seem to have really taken to the limelight too and don’t shy away from the camera, providing us with some hilarious videos and memes that bring laughter to millions.
After Cat Day began, it didn’t take long for the people across the pond to also adopt the day. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals use Cat Day to help bring attention to their cause and spread awareness of animal cruelty.
How To Celebrate Cat Day
The best way to celebrate Cat Day is to pick up your ball of fluff (you may need to wake them up first) and give them a big cat cuddle and feed them their favourite meal. Or maybe your cat is a little diva and would rather be treated to an all expenses paid grooming session? Well todays the day.
Don’t have a cat? Don’t worry, you can still celebrate Cat Day by donating to an animal charity or local shelter or even going out and adopting a life long companion.
