British Food Habits That Americans Get Wrong
In the week that THAT woman from across the pond decimated another great British classic – beans on toast – we thought we’d take a look at what else the Americans get wrong when it comes to food.
Making gravy with milk, like a white sauce.
Yep, they even manage to fudge up gravy! In the USA, gravy is made with milk 🤢 and is more like a white sauce that’s also flavoured with salt, pepper and wait for it… drippings from a sausage. Make of that what you will… I can’t write about it anymore.
Their biscuits aren’t dunk-able! (WTF?)
Frankly this one is sacrilege, instead of the crunchy goodness us Brits love to dunk in a brew, America’s equivalent is more like a scone – spongy and definitely no good for dunking! NO AMERICA, NO!
American eggs would be illegal in the UK…
If you’ve ever seen American eggs, you’ll know they’re almost always white. Well, that’s because they’re cleaned and sprayed with sanitiser before hitting the shelf. In fact, English eggs are so different than American ones that American eggs would actually be illegal in the UK – or anywhere in the EU! And vice versa.
US ketchup is questionable.
Heinz Ketchup is a cupboard favourite in both nations. In the UK, the popular condiment is GMO free. In the US, however, it’s full of GMO’s & high fructose corn syrup, as well as lab-produced flavourings! We don’t know why, but what we did find on Google could land us in hot water for publishing, so we’ll let you form your own opinions…
Spotted Dick.
Apparently, Americans quite like the taste of a spotted dick. But, it’s rarely found on menus in the States because people from across the pond can’t take the name seriously enough, to even try eating it.
So, there you have it, a brief list of food that America does wrong. What else would you add?
